I n the business world, m ore im portance is placed on churning out functional code than on achieving clever hacks and elegance. Because of the trem endous exponential growth of com putational power and m em ory, spending an extra five hours to create a slightly faster and m ore m em ory efficient piece of code just doesn't m ake business sense when dealing with m odern com puters that have gigahertz of processing cycles and gigabytes of m em ory. While tim e and m em ory optim izations go without notice by all but the m ost sophisticated of users, a new feature is m arketable. When the bottom line is m oney, spending tim e on clever hacks for optim ization just doesn't m ake sense.
